Regional Languages
Why regional language support requires more than broad market labels and often depends on script, education, and institutional context.
Regional languages are often treated as edge cases in software planning, but in practice they represent real users, institutions, and knowledge communities. Supporting them well usually requires more than adding a generic “other languages” bucket.
The challenge is not only translation volume. It also includes script support, Unicode correctness, typography, terminology, education norms, and the difference between language families that are close but not interchangeable. A region may contain several writing systems, several standards, and several distinct expectations about public-facing language.
This matters in documentation because conceptual accuracy and user trust are strongly tied to language choice. A project that claims regional relevance but collapses distinct languages or scripts into one convenience layer will often feel unfinished even if the underlying technology works.
LetBooks is a good example because its intended context includes Slovenian and several former Yugoslav and Balkan language communities, including both Latin and Cyrillic writing.
